Yoga 4 Philly

Mission and History

Yoga 4 The World, 501c3, a/k/a Yoga 4 Philly exists to make yoga and meditation accessible to everyone, everywhere. Our Yoga 4 Kids initiative exists to invest in the mental, emotional, social/cultural, and physical well-being of kids so that they will be equipped and empowered to be mindful people in the world. In January 2015, while in a dark troubled place mentally and spiritually, which St. John of the Cross would call the Dark Night of the Soul, Steven felt the need to “do something different”. After listening to Russell Simmons discuss the need for everyone to practice yoga and meditation and to embrace a vegan lifestyle, Steven said, “ok – let me try this.” As Steven found peace on the yoga mat, he felt convicted that yoga should be accessible to everyone. Little did he know that the conviction would move him to officially launch Yoga 4 Philly, now known as Yoga 4 The World, on April 23rd, 2019. As a result of this vision, kids, school administrators, seniors, adults of all ages, individuals in groups homes, and communities that have been impacted by poverty, drug abuse, and sex trafficking can now have the opportunity to find peace, love, and healing through yoga & meditation!

Grant Summary

Based on these larger goals for Yoga 4 Philly, we are seeking funds that will support certain initiatives in our program which we are trying to grow. We have a need for funding to expand our professional development for staff and increase staff capacity in the program in general. A grant from the Kensington Resilience Fund would be specifically earmarked to support our Yoga 4 Kids programming in such a way that allows it to continue its rapid growth and become a long-term foundational element of our organization. This is an area of need for us, as we seek to continue meeting our goals and objectives of making Yoga 4 Philly a more grounded, foundational organization in Philadelphia whereby we can expand and promote the give-and-take model of fundraising and service that Yoga 4 The World stands for both in Philadelphia and in other cities in the world. We are experiencing great demand for Yoga 4 Kids classes, higher demand than we can currently meet. A grant from the Kensington Resilience Fund would allow Yoga 4 Philly to expand its yoga classes to the students at Elkin Elementary School in Kensington to meet that demand and other demands from the school district. Funds will be used to cover general operating expenses such as registered yoga teacher rates, official yoga equipment, and launching a yoga student ambassador program. Yoga 4 Philly would be able to employ additional certified yoga teachers to administer this program.
