Yoga 4 Philly

Mission and History

Yoga 4 The World, also known as Yoga 4 Philly, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to making yoga and meditation accessible to everyone, everywhere. The journey of Yoga 4 Philly began in January 2015 when our founder, Steven, experienced a personal transformation, often described as the “Dark Night of the Soul.” This challenging period fueled his desire to pursue a new path, inspired in part by Russell Simmons’ advocacy for yoga, meditation, and a healthy lifestyle. Seeking solace in the practice, Steven recognized that yoga’s benefits should extend to all, particularly those in underserved communities.
On April 23, 2019, Yoga 4 Philly officially rebranded as Yoga 4 The World. Since its inception, the organization has focused on bringing the peace, healing, and empowerment of yoga to diverse populations, including children, seniors, and individuals affected by socio-economic challenges such as poverty, substance abuse, and human trafficking.

Our work in the Kensington, Harrowgate, and Fairhill neighborhoods has been especially impactful. Through collaborations with local schools and community organizations, we have effectively introduced trauma-informed yoga classes that address the unique needs of the youth in these areas. We strive to create supportive environments where young people can learn valuable life skills, cultivate mindfulness, and develop emotional resilience, positively influencing their overall well-being and school experience.
