Klean Kensington

Mission and History

We have more recently expanded our work from 2 garden complexes to 3 garden complexes in the North Kensington area (F and Hilton; G and Madison/Willard; Shelbourne and Madison). We have also expanded the number of teens we work with from about 10 at the start of the year to about 25-30.

Grant Summary

We will pay teens stipends ($18+/hour) to clean, beautify, garden, and build up the community. We will also provide funds for volunteer mentors to spend time one-on-one with the teens.

Overall, as an organization, we will continue to empower the teens to create gardens, partner with other local organizations, assist with an after school program, and more. We will also empower the teens themselves through offering workshops aimed at holistic growth and providing contexts for mentorship, socialization, and community, and in doing so, combating the isolation and social anxiety epidemic outlined by Jonathan Haidt (“The Anxious Generation,” 2024), Derek Thompson (“The Anti-Social Century”, The Atlantic, 1/8/2025), and others.
