Mission and History

By Faith, Health and Healing provides quality learning opportunities to rebuild, establish and maintain healthy lifestyles and healing mentally, physically and spiritually. We empower the community and public with life sustaining tools and skills, with quality education in making effective decisions on health and stress related issues.

Originally founded as a specialized home health care agency in 2013, By Faith, Health and Healing paused operations after the loss of founder Brenda Mosley’s daughter. Ms. Mosley moved to Kensington in 2014 and began working with community-based trauma informed programming, community outreach, and service as a sponsor for those suffering from addiction. Trained as a nurse, Community Connector, certified community health worker, and certified peer specialist, Ms. Mosley was a foundational contributor to the design of a trauma informed curriculum for community engagement. After this experience and seeing the value of how this work can heal, Ms. Mosley re-established the organization in 2020 with a focus on rebuilding the community and establishing a foundation in trauma informed care in Kensington.

Since, Ms. Mosley has worked with over 500 families in Kensington recovering from the impacts of community trauma, addiction, gun violence, and loss. She has led several programs with community based partners, including NKCDC, Impact Services, Community Center at Visitation, local artists, Mural Arts, and other local stakeholders and providers.

Grant Summary

By Faith, Health and Healing will utilize the funds of this grant to further address the impacts of community trauma in the Kensington, Harrowgate, and Fairhill communities. In partnership with local organizations and residents, over the next 12 months we expect to continue to build strong community networks to provide struggling families with peer support and environments to process grief and loss, build relationships, develop skillsets, breakdown stigma, and positively impact their lives.

In addition to creating and sustaining strong resident support networks, we anticipate more community members will learn and develop trauma-informed skillsets to be able to deal with the challenges of their communities and the environments they live in. While we know this is not the only work to be done, we expect our participants to build resilience, access additional resources that they have not previously used, and impact their communities in positive ways.

In addition, we anticipate exposing young people in Kensington to enhanced youth programming that will expose them to new skillsets and career pathways such as construction. In working with local contractors and partners, youth will develop skills and complete community-based projects to beautify their neighborhood. We hope the young people will be inspired by their ability to positively impact the community.
