Mission and History

By Faith, Health and Healing provides quality learning opportunities to rebuild, establish and maintain healthy lifestyles and healing mentally, physically and spiritually. We empower the community and public with life sustaining tools and skills, with quality education in making effective decisions on health and stress related issues. We offer hope for the best life to be lived.Originally founded as a specialized home health care agency in 2013, By Faith, Health and Healing paused operations after the loss of founder Brenda Mosley’s daughter. Ms. Mosley moved to Kensington in 2014 and began working with community-based trauma informed programming, community outreach, and service as a sponsor for those suffering from addiction.

Trained as a nurse, Community Connector, certified community health worker, and certified peer specialist, Ms. Mosley was a foundational contributor to the design of a trauma informed curriculum for community engagement done in partnership with New Kensington Community Development Corporation (NKCDC) and Impact Services. After this experience and seeing the value of how this work can heal, Ms. Mosley re-established the organization in 2020 with a focus on rebuilding the community and establishing a foundation in trauma informed care in Kensington.Since, Ms. Mosley has worked with over 500 families in Kensington recovering from the impacts of community trauma, addiction, gun violence, and loss. She has led several programs with community based partners, including NKCDC, Community Center at Visitation, local artists, along with Mural Arts, and other local stakeholders and providers.

Grant Summary

By Faith, Health and Healing aims to use trauma-informed programs to build resiliency and help Kensington families thrive. Through this grant, we look to expand and support our three foundational programs.

Mothers Helping Mothers: Women of Power is a biweekly comprehensive program designed to support mothers experiencing grief and stress associated with various types of loss. It targets up to 25 women per cohort and utilizes a peer-led support group framework with arts-based healing workshops, specialized training, fields trips, and trauma-informed skill development. Participants are supported by experts including community-based certified peer mentors in building a supportive community and developing skillsets to process grief, accept themselves, and move forward to the future.

Men of Power follows a similar model but focuses specifically on the impacts of community trauma and inequity on men of color. This program has been facilitated weekly out of the Community Center at Visitation but is expanding to include Veteran facilities managed by Impact Services.

The Village That Heals targets young people ranging from 5 to 24 years old through a 10-week summer camp. It includes weekly arts-based workshops, sports and play, physical fitness sessions, beautification projects, and workshops on trauma-informed practices. By Faith, Health and Healing will work with a local Kensington contractor to provide skill-building for young people to build benches for McPherson Square Library.
